corona pandemic

A challenge for all of us

The whole world is affected by the Corona pandemic. Many countries are experiencing significant restrictions and tough measures to reduce the transmission of the virus. Other countries face similar challenges in the coming days and weeks.

Global impact

The pictures from Italy cause horror worldwide: Military transporters are trucking coffins away because the local crematoria are overcrowded.

More than 19,000 people are currently stranded on the Greek island of Lesbos. They are on their way to Europe and remain in completely overcrowded registration camps. Especially they are currently threatened by the Corona pandemic.

In India more than 100 million people in more than 80 cities, including the capital New Delhi, are under curfew.

Appeal for Peace

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has called for a worldwide ceasefire. His concern is to protect civilians in crisis areas from the effects of the pandemic. The severity of the virus makes it clear how senseless wars are. It was time for a halt to armed conflict. "Let the guns be silent, stop the artillery, end the air raids," the UN Secretary-General demanded. This is essential to create humanitarian corridors for civilians.

Prayer to connect the world

Worship services in churches cannot and must not exist at present. Mosques, synagogues and temples all over the world have also had to close. The churches try to stay close to the people despite curfews and danger of infection. Prayers and intercessions can be sent around the world to give encouragement to those affected.

Alongside you will find suggestions and reports from affected regions with which we are in partnership.
